Gianni Rodari
Here’s a fantastic New Yorker article by Joan Acocella about Gianni Rodari, a writer I really love who has been only recently been published in English. Some regard him as mainly – or even exclusively – an author for children, but he’s better described as someone who unites a fantastical imagination with a deep interest in education. Rodari’s books, such as Telephone Tales (1962), are a miraculous precipitate of imagery inherited from surrealism and critical thinking acquired via Marxist doctrine.

Take a look at these 19th-century visualisations of migraines. This National Geographic article discusses the neurology behind the drawings and the research of those who captured headache auras on paper: psychedelic zigzags in the abyss

Listen

I miss seeing Public Order’s sets and am thankful they have a monthly NTS show. They always have excellent guests – such as Softglove and Living Gatlato on this latest instalment, which also features tracks from Nkisi, Jam City, LA Timpa and Rabit.

Track of the Day

Smoking up, my garden’s making flowers you don’t water
Life’s too short to live the same day twice again tomorrow
Make new memories today, them old ones can’t affect you
Nobody is perfect, baby, we all deserve better
