Gianni Rodari

Here’s a fantastic New Yorker article by Joan Acocella about Gianni Rodari, a writer I really love who has been only recently been published in English. Some regard him as mainly – or even exclusively – an author for children, but he’s better described as someone who unites a fantastical imagination with a deep interest in education. Rodari’s books, such as Telephone Tales (1962), are a miraculous precipitate of imagery inherited from surrealism and critical thinking acquired via Marxist doctrine.

Three Dialogues

Black studies scholar, prison abolitionist, poet, musician, and author of Carceral Capitalism (Semiotext(e), 2018) Jackie Wang curated these three compelling conversations for Artists Space: Dialogue One: Carceral Aesthetics and the Politics of Love is with Nicole R. Fleetwood, Professor of American Studies and Art History at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, curator and author of Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration (Harvard University Press, 2020); Dialogue Two: Dreams, Death, and the Poetics of the Underland is with poets Edgar Garcia and Harmony Holiday on dreams, colonialism, the poetics of the black radical tradition, suicide, and the body; and Dialogue three: Sonic Legacies and Afro-Futures is with electronic musician Moor Mother (Camae Dennis of the Black Quantum Futurism Collective) and harpist, composer, educator, and concert curator Brandee Younger.
