Programmed in parallel with I must create a Master Piece to pay the Rent, a survey exhibition of the work of Julie Becker, The Edge of the Earth is a group screening that draws together video works by five artists. As Becker's work operates at the psychic edge of shared social and cultural imaginaries, these videos display an intertextual relationship with the Hollywood dream factory, news and advertising in Los Angeles and the United States. Exploring the power of ‘the media’ and its ability to shock, provoke, persuade, invoke fantasy and provide catharsis, artists Tony Cokes, Branda Miller, Ellen Cantor, Peter d’Agostino and Ed Emshwiller explore the construction of ‘the real’ and the testing of its perimeters.
