I Was Here + Q&A
Institute of Contemporary Arts
I Was Here, dirs. Nathalie Biancheri and Ola Jankowska, Poland / United Kingdom 2017, English

This screening is followed by a Q&A with directors Nathalie Biancheri and Ola Jankowksa hosted by independent producer and curator Zarina Rossheart.

On a journey through post-Brexit vote England, locals from towns, villages and cities are invited to take part in a casting for a documentary character. They dig into their lives to evoke a moment or episode they believe is worthy of being immortalised on film, through interview and re-enactment. As each candidate tries to prove themselves, the audience questions our perception of a life worth capturing on film, the role of the media and our basic, human instinct to leave a trace of ourselves for the sake of posterity.
