Opening Night: More Than Just A Pretty Face – Alt Drag Revolution
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Beauties Without A Cause, dir. David Weissman, USA 1985

With RuPaul’s Drag Race’s arrival on the British television circuit, the radical history and provocative spirit of drag has never been more important. Less interested in convention, alternative drag has always been more motivated by pushing boundaries and shattering binaries.

In partnership with Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest, London Short Film Festival delves into this rich history with an evening of film and performance championing these artists. Shorts from the treasure trove of 1980-90s drag are put in conversation with some of London’s most invigorating performers, including Baby Lame, That Ray, Wesley Dykes, Drag Syndrome, and Lilly Snatchdragon. With projections from the archive of legendary London-born club kid, Jeffrey Hinton.
