I’ve really enjoyed exploring this new collection of natural sounds, oral histories, poetry and music, which has somewhat quelled my longing for the seaside. If you also find comfort in the sound of water or ocean waves, I highly recommend Underwater recording from Cromer Pier and Gentle waves washing over a buried hydrophone.

Maurice Pialat is one of the most misunderstood modern film directors. A near-contemporary of the French New Wave, his first film Naked Childhood (1968) was co-produced by François Truffaut. In 1996, the French director Arnaud Desplechin claimed that it was not Godard whose influence has been the strongest and most constant on young French cinema, but Pialat. The House in the Woods is a striking TV commission that he completed in 1971.
