Someone once wrote that a filmmaker's first film should draw from everything in their life up until that point, and while 88:88 isn't Isiah Medina's first film (it is his first feature), it certainly gives the impression of a valve being released, of an entire world bursting forth for the very first time and of being submerged in a life's worth of images, sounds, and thoughts.

Fragments, loops, superimpositions and snippets of verses, 88:88 feels at turns both maximalist and impeccably distilled, intimate and grandiose. Taking its title from the reset that displays on an appliance after the power has been cut, Isiah Medina's debut feature is a profoundly humanistic and densely layered exploration of suspension and the running in place reality of contemporary life.
