In a Palestinian town, Tamer and his friends lead a typical high school student’s life until the arrival of the beautiful Maysaa. To please her, Tamer agrees to take part in a mysterious flag operation on the eve of Israel’s Independence Day, which is a mourning day for Palestinians.

Alam has picked up several prizes, including Best Film and the Audience Award at the Cairo Film Festival. It is the debut feature of Palestinian scriptwriter and director Firas Khoury, whose short films include award-winning movies Seven Days in Deir Bulus (2007), Yellow Mums (2010) and Maradona’s Legs (2019), the latter of which screened at SAFAR 2020.

Presented as part of SAFAR Film Festival’s Nakba 75 strand, a selection of films exploring the impact and aftermath of the forced expulsion of over 700,000 Palestinians from their homeland in 1948, and the ongoing reality of life under occupation.
