What do the restored buildings tell us about their histories? Acclaimed filmmaker Benning takes us on a sensory journey into the history of Allensworth, a town that was systematically erased by racism and has since become a contested memorial. Resisting didactic ways of knowing, the film’s patient static shots allow us to draw deeper, personal connections between the quiet veneer of daily life and the ongoing struggles that simmer beneath it.
