Director Carla Simón (Summer 1993) joins us for a Q&A following this special preview of her second film, a deeply moving ensemble portrait of a Catalan community fighting eviction from their farm – and the winner of the Golden Bear at this year’s Berlinale.
It’s summer in Alcarràs, a small village in Catalonia. And it may be the last summer on their farm for the Solé family, who have been harvesting peaches here for as long as anyone can remember. The owner of their land has died, and his heir wants to replace the peach trees with solar panels – cutting off the Solés’ livelihood at its very roots. Using a cast entirely made up from non-professional actors, Simón crafts a vivid portrait of a family at a generational crossroads – and a powerful reflection on the competing natures of tradition and change.
This screening is followed by a Q&A with Carla Simón, hosted by Anna Bogutskaya.
