ICA is closed from the 30 May – 3 June inclusive.
If love is destiny, how might we each find our own perfect match? Cláudia Varejão’s poetic documentary introduces us to a playfully wide array of couples who believe that only the company of their other halves makes them complete.
Varejão spent two years travelling around her native Portugal making Amor Fati (literally, ‘love of fate’), filming love in all shapes and sizes. A mysterious hermit and his white horse; two peroxide-blonde boys with a shared love of tattoos; a young blind man and his mother; inseparable identical twins. Here, there and everywhere, Varejão weaves together these pocket portraits into an enchanting whole.
Amor Fati is screening as part of Collective Mobilisation, a survey of work from contemporary Portuguese cinema co-presented by the ICA and TERRATREME.
See a preview of Amor Fati on 2 June.
