ICA is closed from the 30 May – 3 June inclusive.
Winner of the Golden Bear for the best film at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival, Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude’s strong and uncompromising satire is a relentless attack on prejudice and hypocrisy.
Divided into three parts and produced under lockdown, Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn is what Jude describes as a ‘sketch for a popular film’. The first part follows Emi (Katia Pascariu), a history teacher, as she walks through the COVID-emptied streets of Bucharest – while a private sex tape she made with her husband escapes on to the internet. Following part two, a distinct dictionary of ‘anecdotes, signs, and wonders’, the third part sees Emi face an absurdist parents’ tribunal that becomes an exercise in misogyny and racism.
To celebrate this film’s release, the ICA presents In Focus: Radu Jude – selections from the director’s singular catalogue of features and shorts.
