ICA is closed from the 30 May – 3 June inclusive.
Filmed at the height of the pandemic with a crew of two, and haunted by more than just that context’s specific challenges, Tyler Taormina’s second feature, following his much-celebrated Ham on Rye (2019), continues his fascination with the multilayered mysteries of the American suburb. Here, though, he guides us in a new, audacious direction.
Doing away with dialogue entirely, Happer’s Comet becomes a sonic portrait of lonely lives seeking connection. When people start to venture out of the safety and security of their homes, Taormina offers us a moving example of what it means to resist complacency.
This screening will feature a recorded introduction with Tyler Taormina.
