Swan Song on 35mm
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Swan Song (绝响), dir. Zhang Zeming, Mandarin and Cantonese with English subtitles, 103 min

The debut film from Zhang Zeming, one of the lesser-known figures of China's famed 5th generation of filmmakers who revolutionised Chinese cinema in the 1980s, Swan Song spans three tumultuous decades through the Cultural Revolution and beyond, to tell the haunting and melancholy tale of a Cantonese composer and his son.
