The Great Yawn of History (Khamyazeye bozorg), dir. Aliyar Rasti, Farsi with English subtitles, 93 min.
A new discovery from the Iranian underground, screening in London for the first time. A man hires an assistant for a high-risk treasure hunt, drawing them both into the haunted heart of a country reckoning with its past and uncertain of its future. Part road movie, part mystery, and a sharp allegory for contemporary Iran, The Great Yawn of History captures the restless dreams of a generation cutting themselves loose from the weight of history and daring to imagine something new.
Winner of the Jury Award at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival.
The Great Yawn of History will be preceded by Ebrahim Golestan's short film Crown Jewels of Iran.
This screening is presented by Cinema Tehran and will be followed by an online Q&A with filmmaker Aliyar Rasti
