A landmark of 1970s cinema, The Passenger follows a weary journalist who assumes the identity of a dead man, embarking on a journey across continents, borders, and ultimately his own identity. Starring Jack Nicholson at his most enigmatic, The Passenger is a meditative road movie, a thriller drained of conventional suspense, and a profound reflection on the impossibility of escape from the self, from history, and the gaze of others.

This screening is presented by Cinema Tehran.

Cinema Tehran: Stories from the Road
Two films, two journeys across borders, identities, and time. From Antonioni’s existential drift through a fractured post-colonial world to a bold new voice from the Iranian underground, Stories from the Road traces the restless movements of characters searching for the meaning of dreams, truth, freedom, and escape.
Cinema Tehran is a pop-up cinematheque inspired by the era of 1970s cinemas in Iran’s capital. This project represents the reemergence of the spirit of the metropolitan theaters of Tehran, and is the continuation of the cult dance party and concert series hosted by Disco Tehran. Each Cinema Tehran session features a multi-cultural selection of films, bringing together classics of world cinema with new visions from emerging talents.

This series has been created by Arya Ghavamian, the co-founder of Disco Tehran. For more info about Cinema Tehran and Disco Tehran, visit https://cinematehran.nyc/ and www.discotehran.nyc/
