The second feature from director Jay Bedwani (Rose and Rosie: Overshare) paints an intimate and inspiring portrait of Donna Personna – artist, activist and legend of the San Francisco trans underground.
Born into a religious Mexican-American family, Donna Personna found her way to San Francisco in the mid-1960s. Performing with the Cockettes and hanging out at Compton’s Cafeteria, site of one of America’s first LGBT protests, she found her place in the world – but never shared that place with her family, who have never met her authentic self. Following Personna as she heads out of the city to be reunited with her sister, Bedwani’s film proves that it’s never too late to truly be yourself. As Personna told Harper’s Bazaar: ‘I’m in my seventies and I’m still here. Not only am I still here, but I’m happy. Life is wonderful.’
