Programme

Saturday 28 November, 8pm
Resistance, Connection, Enclosure: John Maybury in the 1980s
John Maybury’s exuberant films frequently revolve around style and self-fashioning as means of expression and resistance. Combining Super 8 and video, original and found images, and reliant on intricate editing and layering, they are testimonies of 1980s post-punk queer defiance.

Thursday 3 December, 8.40pm
Come Into My (Dressing) Room: A Post-Punk Trio
Step into three very different sites of cinematic dressing, in which rooms are worn like clothes. In the 20th century, homes and their furnishings were increasingly marketed according to the logic of fashion, each successive style promising to capture our singular personalities. In the post-punk era, as cracks appeared in the supposed ideals of the nuclear family, home ownership and consumer economics, a new attitude emerged that embraced bricolage, decay and the communal.
