A young Tunisian man rests his arm against a light blue wall, staring quietly at the wall
Harka, dir. Lotfy Nathan, Belgium / USA 2022, 85 min., Arabic with English subtitles, 15

Lotfy Nathan’s first narrative feature follows Ali, a young Tunisian repeatedly beset by injustices who fights for his dignity in post-revolutionary Tunisia.

Dreaming of a better life, Ali makes a precarious living selling contraband gas on the streets of Tunisia. Forced to take charge of his two younger sisters after their father’s sudden death, and facing impending eviction, Ali will have to make a decision from which there is no turning back. As he wrestles with the sudden weight of responsibility and the injustices he faces, anger and indignation stir within him – that of a generation still fighting to be heard more than a decade after the revolution.
