Powerful, political, funny and heartbreaking, Panah Panahi’s award-winning debut follows a tight-knit family on a journey that could change all their lives forever.
A road, somewhere in Iran. In the front of the car: the eldest son (Amin Simiar), quiet and inscrutable, and his mother (Pantea Panahiha), by turns exuberant and upset. And in the back, the father (Hasan Majuni), nursing a broken leg while trying to take care of his exuberant six-year-old son (Rayan Sarlak) and the family’s ailing dog. They’re clearly going somewhere important – but where? And, more importantly, why?
Picking up acclaim and awards at festivals worldwide, including the Best Film prize at the BFI London Film Festival 2021, Hit the Road heralds the arrival of a brilliant new talent in world cinema.
