In 1970, Rubens Paiva was abducted from his home in Rio de Janeiro and was never seen again. In filmmaker Walker Salles’ (The Motorcycle Diaries, 2004) first narrative feature in twelve years, he details the life of the Paiva family, who he knew personally, after this tragedy and how they fought for justice under the authoritarian rule of Brazil’s military regime. A portrait of impossible bravery, wrought with evident care.
