Inexorable, dir. Fabrice du Welz, Belgium 2021, 98 min., French with English subtitles, 18

In search of inspiration and the space to work on his latest book, novelist Marcel Bellmer and his family relocate to his wife’s old family mansion. As the Bellmers acquaint themselves with their vast new surroundings, Marcel feels the pressure to produce a new manuscript that lives up to the success of his former bestseller ‘Inexorable’.

When the family employ an enigmatic young housekeeper named Gloria, it appears their life is falling into place. But as Gloria’s obsession with Marcel’s work slowly becomes apparent, it becomes clear that her appearance is no mere coincidence. Does she have ulterior motives for ingratiating herself in his family?

A deliciously twisted balance of beauty and brutality, Inexorable is a work of typical intensity from acclaimed Belgian filmmaker Fabrice du Welz, with stunning cinematography evocative of sleazy Euro thrillers from the 1970s.
