Lars Henrik Ostenfeld’s impressive debut follows three intrepid scientists studying Greenland’s icy terrain, which stretches north to the polar ice cap. Their quest is a simple but dangerous one: climbing down into the constantly shifting crevasses to seek greater understanding of the state of the frozen mass and the impact of its melting on the oceans. No matter the risk, the data they gather is essential.
Into The Ice captures the landscape on an awe-inspiring scale. At the same time, as it details the work of this small team, the film stresses the importance of the scientists’ mission in determining the course of all our futures. Ostenfeld’s riveting film is a challenge to complacency and inaction.
