Based on true events, Jan Paweł Matuszyński’s devastating drama tells the story of a notorious state-sanctioned murder and its aftermath in communist Poland.
Warsaw, 1983, and a country under martial law is stunned by the death of Grzegorz Przemyk (Mateusz Górski). The son of dissident poet Barbara Sadowska, herself constantly threatened by the state over her opposition to them, Przemyk is beaten to death by Polish militia just days before his 19th birthday – in front of only one witness, his friend Jurek Popiel (Tomasz Ziętek). When Jurek decides to speak up, the regime pull rank to cover up the crime – and overnight, Jurek becomes the state’s number-one enemy. Taking an award-winning book by reporter Cezary Łazarewicz as his inspiration, Matuszyński retells this chilling story in compelling and evocative fashion.
