The second feature from Belgian writer-director Laurent Micheli explores the complexities of grief, identity and family ties through the story of a young trans woman and her estranged father.
Lola (Mya Bollaers) is an 18-year-old transgender woman, an only child whose transition has split her family. When her supportive mother suddenly dies, Lola is forced to confront Phillipe (Benoît Magimel), the estranged father who threw her out of the family home. Driven by the common goal to fulfil the dead woman’s last wishes, Lola and her father take a journey to the North Sea to scatter her ashes – and try to see one another in a new light. Micheli’s empathetic feature is a beautiful portrait of a breaking but not broken family, highlighted by Bollaers’ astonishing debut performance.
