Set in Upper Egypt in 1881, a year before the start of British colonial rule, Shadi Abdel Salam's only feature film as director is based on true events involving the Horabat, a tribe who have supported themselves by secretly looting the tombs of Thebes and selling pharaonic treasures on the black market. When a young clansman, Wannis, learns the truth behind his family's wealth following his father's death, he is caught between loyalty to his community and a growing concern about the desecration it depends on. Filmed against the ruins of ancient Thebes, the film looks at pharaonic heritage as a living inheritance and a source of national identity, asking who has the right to claim, sell or protect a nation's past.

This screening will be introduced by Elhum Shakerifar.
