Funny Shit
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Backflip, dir. Nikita Diakur, Germany 2022,13 min.

Humour is subjective, but a few of us have fed into our annual opening night programme of comedy shorts, so expect to LOL at least once. It takes particular skill to make a short truly funny - a mix of empathy, chaos and a dose of schadenfreude, or something so bizarre and chaotic that you find yourself cry-laughing.

A filmmaker pens an ode to her mum’s ex-boyfriend, a sweet pomeranian turns into a killing machine (always the small dogs), a gathering of protestors navigate an anthropomorphic transport system and a strangely loveable digital avatar attempts a backflip with varied results (for fans of internet sensation QWOP).
