Stone Club: Figures in the Landscape + Q&A
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Figures in the Landscape, dir. Dudley Shaw Ashton, UK 1963, 17 min.

“If everything I possessed, vanished, suddenly,
I'd be sorry.
But I value things unpossessed.
The wind, and trees, and sky and kind thoughts, much more.”
–  Dorothy Hartley

“There is a curtain, thin as gossamer, clear as glass, strong as iron, that hangs forever between the world of magic and the world that seems to us to be real.”
–  E. Nesbit

Stone Club traverses Britain and Ireland’s ancient landscapes via the medium of shorts. From mysterious apparitions in Cymru, sculptural monoliths on the misty moors of Kernow, and a bouncy Stonehenge travelling across the UK, Stone Club offers visions that attempt to thin the veil, inviting us to re-enchant the landscapes we inhabit on a daily basis.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Jeremy Deller and Stone Club’s Lally MacBeth & Matthew Shaw.
