the silent image of a woman

With the critical resurgence of ‘Girlhood’ and the explosion of digital self-content, there’s never been a more confusing time to question: how should women present through images?

Reclaiming the conditional feminist space, these films project femme identity through TikToks and internet collusions, documenting queer rebellion, video diary and oral histories of the past. Pushing at the limitations of contemporary media, they think anew Girlhood on screen - imagining a revolution through pixelated doorways, doomscrolling and disappearing archives.

Through missing persons investigations and friendships formed in carparks, the terminally online perspective disquiets the female figures of cinematic history, scratching at the surface of alternative, senseless and brilliant worlds.

The attending filmmakers will join us for a Q&A following the screening.
