What seems like a dream job for Sarah, a retired Austrian martial artist hired to train three teenage sisters in Jordan, quickly turns into something far more unsettling. The sisters show no interest in training, their lavish home feels more like a gilded cage, and bodyguards patrol the house as if guarding a secret.
In Moon, director Kurdwin Ayub flips the “white saviour” trope on its head, unraveling a mystery of wealth, control, and isolation. Sarah’s polite curiosity soon gives way to creeping dread, especially when her questions about the family name are met with abrupt silence.
Following her acclaimed debut Sonne, Ayub borrows from thriller and horror genres to craft a tense, sunlit mystery. Anchored by Florentina Holzinger’s fierce performance, Moon explores hidden power dynamics in a story that’s both chilling and thought-provoking. Moon won the special Jury Prize at Locarno Film Festival.
This UK Premiere screening is followed by a Q&A with director Kurdwin Ayub.
