Moonage Daydream
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Moonage Daydream, dir. Brett Morgen, Germany / USA 2022, 140 min., English, 15

Director Brett Morgen (The Kid Stays in the Picture, Cobain: Montage of Heck) celebrates the visionary genius and unparalleled influence of David Bowie in a way that would surely have delighted the singer himself.

Moonage Daydream blends a wealth of familiar, rare and never-before-seen footage into a kaleidoscopic journey through Bowie’s creative, musical and spiritual lives – narrated by Bowie himself. It’s not so much a documentary as a 140-minute hallucination, an audacious reimagination of the potential ways in which non-fiction filmmaking can capture and represent its subjects. Bolstered by immersive sound design and a predictably dazzling soundtrack (overseen by Tony Visconti, Bowie’s longtime producer), Moonage Daydream is a note-perfect homage to one of our greatest ever artists.
