PREVIEW Sidney
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Sidney, dir. Reginald Hudlin, USA 2022, 106 min., English, 12A

Directed by Reginald Hudlin (Marshall, The Black Godfather) and produced by Oprah Winfrey, this sweeping documentary explores the life and legacy of Sidney Poitier – the actor, director and activist who found a place at the centre of both Hollywood and the Civil Rights Movement, and the first Black actor to win an Academy Award.

Hudlin’s richly detailed portrait surveys Poitier’s films, life story and accomplishments as an artist who forever changed what it means to be Black in America. Featuring candid interviews with Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Robert Redford, Spike Lee and many more, the film is also produced by Derik Murray in close collaboration with the Poitier family. This special cinema preview anticipates Sidney’s release on Apple TV+ later this month.

More screenings on the film from Friday 23 September.
Presented with the support of We Are Parable and British Black List.
