Acclaimed Polish director Agnieszka Smoczyńska (The Lure) makes her English-language debut with this wildly imaginative feature – a stranger-than-fiction story of two sisters based on the bestseller of the same name by Marjorie Wallace.
From an early age, June and Jennifer Gibbons – Letitia Wright (Black Panther) and Tamara Lawrance (Small Axe) – refuse to communicate with anyone but each other. Born in Yemen to Barbadian parents, the twins found themselves living in 1970s Haverfordwest; 11-year-old daughters of the only Black family in a town not noted for its tolerance. Between the harsh realities of their isolation and the turbulence of their teenage years, the sisters rely on each other to an almost pathological degree – creating a world that only they can enter or understand.
