Atom Egoyan’s latest film is an intense psychological drama featuring Amanda Seyfried as Jeanine, a troubled opera director staging a new production of Salome in tribute to her deceased mentor and former lover. Determined to deliver a stimulating revival, Jeanine throws herself into rehearsals only to discover her romantic past and emotionally scarring childhood memories are creeping into the production, blurring the line between Salome and her own life. A riveting central performance by Amanda Seyfried anchors this provocative film as it explores Egoyan’s signature themes of loss, memory, alienation and family trauma with a level of precision equalling his most memorable work.
