The Age of Innocence, dir. Martin Scorsese, USA 1993, 138 min., English, 12A
Adapted from Edith Wharton novel of the same name, The Age of Innocence is a witty deppiction of the restrictive high society of late-19th Century New York. Directed by Martin Scorcese and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder among others, the film gets a brand new 4k restoration on the 30th anniversary of its first release.
In 1870s New York, society scion Newland Archer is engaged to May Welland, but his well-ordered life is upset when he meets May's unconventional cousin, the Countess Olenska. As her separation from an abusive husband has made her a social outcast, she finds in Newland a defender – and a companion spirit.
