The Brutalist follows Hungarian architect László Tóth, a Jewish survivor of Nazi persecution, who arrives in the US after WWII, penniless and unknown. His talents are recognised by industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren, Tóth is commissioned to design a monumental building. However his success comes at a cost and he faces manipulation, envy, and the corrosive effects of capitalism. Brady Corbet’s ambitious and ambiguous drama, driven by a powerful performance from Adrien Brody, explores trauma, art’s value, and the perils of unchecked desire.
The screening will be preceded by a Q&A introduction with the film's composer Daniel Blumberg.
