Rio de Janeiro, 1950. Eurídice (Carol Duarte) and Guida (Julia Stockler) are two inseparable sisters living conventional lives at home with their conservative parents, but they both harbour dreams of their own: 18-year-old Eurídice of becoming a renowned pianist, 20-year-old Guida of finding true love. When their father unexpectedly separates his daughters, they take control of their individual destinies – but the sisters never give up hope of finding each other.
Based on the novel by Martha Batalha and boasting excellent performances from its two leads, Karim Aïnouz’s epic tropical melodrama won the Un Certain Regard prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2019.
