The Magic Mountain, dirs. Eitan Efrat and Daniel Mann, Belgium 2020, German and Polish with English subtitles

Currently not available

Eitan Efrat and Daniel Mann go beneath the surface of three locations across Europe in an essayistic film unearthing the resources, the secrets and the mysteries of the ground beneath our feet.

In Austria, a ‘healing tunnel’ reveals stores of a radioactive gas said to have therapeutic properties. In Switzerland, stones give off an unexpectedly powerful energy. And in Poland, caves reveal ‘pearls’ made of calcite, of limestone, and of the sweat and blood of those who once worked within these walls. In its exploration of these hidden spaces, The Magic Mountain considers our insatiable desire to extract natural resources from the ground beneath us – while simultaneously uncovering different modes of knowing, sensing and seeing the world.
