Winner of seven prizes at the recent Irish Film & Television Awards, Colm Bairéad’s beautifully understated feature debut follows a young girl as she comes to terms with the importance of family and identity in rural Ireland.
Cait (Catherine Clinch) is a quietly troubled nine-year-old girl – neglected by her pregnant mother, boorish father and louder siblings, ignored at school. But things change when her father takes her to live with in-laws Eibhlín (Carrie Crowley) and farmer husband Seán (Andrew Bennett) for the summer. Cait soon finds freedom and much-needed attention in her new world, but soon senses that with her new foster parents, not all is as it seems. Bairéad paints a tender picture of a family and its secrets – with a remarkable performance from Clinch as a girl finding her place in the world.
