ICA is closed from the 30 May – 3 June inclusive.
On 23 June 2018, 12 members of a Thai schoolboys’ football team – the eldest 16, the youngest just 11 – finished training, packed up their kit and went on an adventure with their coach into Tham Luang Nang Non, a cave in rural Thailand. Heavy rainwater quickly flooded the cave, trapping them deep inside – and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin’s gripping documentary chronicles what happened next.
Winners of the Best Documentary Oscar in 2019 for their previous feature Free Solo, Vasarhelyi and Chin use exclusive access and never-before-seen footage to retell this genuinely extraordinary story of sacrifice, spirit and survival.
The screening is followed by a Q&A with Chai Vasarhelyi, producer Thanet Natisri, and Rick Stanton,l and Jason Mallinson – two of the cave divers who played a leading role in the mission to save the boys, hosted by film critic Simran Hans.
