Shot entirely in secret, Mohammad Rasoulof’s searing drama depicts a man recently appointed a a judge in Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Court. However this new position comes parallel to growing unrest against the government on the streets, which stirs discontent and emboldens his wife and two daughters at home in their political convictions. As the family falls under scrutiny, the judge’s public life falls into jeopardy, and his distrust blooms in all directions. 

Rasoulof fled his home before finishing The Seed of the Sacred Fig to avoid eight years in prison. In exile, the film has gone on to win a Special Jury Prize at Cannes amongst numerous other accolades.
