A photographer and a writer head to deepest Tibet in search of the almost mystical snow leopard in Marie Amiguet and Vincent Munier’s César-winning meditation on nature, with a gorgeous soundtrack from Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
High on the Tibetan plateau, among unexplored and inaccessible valleys, lies one of the last sanctuaries of the wild world – and within it, the Tibetan snow leopard, one of the planet’s most elusive creatures. Munier, one of the world’s most renowned wildlife photographers, takes Sylvain Tesson, adventurer and author of In the Forest of Siberia, on a weeks-long mission to track down the creature. The Velvet Queen pays unspoken homage to The Snow Leopard, author Peter Matthiessen’s extraordinary spiritual travelogue, but this is very much Munier and Amiguet’s journey – aided and amplified by Cave and Ellis’s haunting music.
