Angola, 1974, the thirteenth year of the liberation war: the Portuguese and their descendants flee the colony, where independentist groups gradually lay claim to their territory. Nação Valente gives a dual perspective on this struggle: a tribal girl who discovers love and death when her path crosses that of a young Portuguese soldier; and a group of Portuguese soldiers who are barracked inside an infinite wall from which they will have to escape once the past comes out of the grave to claim its long awaited justice.

A Terratreme production, Portuguese filmmaker Carlos Conceição's daring sophomore feature premiered at the Locarno Fim Festival before touring in festivals and venues across continents.
This release is part of ICA's ongoing collaboration with the prolific Lisbon-based collective Terratreme, founded in 2008 by a group of emerging directors, and production company Uma Pedra no Sapato, which focuses on presenting innovative perspectives on our realities to international audiences.

For the past seven years, the ICA Cinema has presented their latest productions as limited releases, in an effort to showcase the best of the current Portuguese independent film production.
