Young ICA Network × PRIM: June Reading Workshop
Institute of Contemporary Arts
A PRIM reading group. Image courtesy of PRIM and K Bailey Obazee

Join K Bailey Obazee, founder and director of PRIM, for a reading workshop on HIM & HIS by Helene Salem Kleih, a visual and written anthology about men, mental health, and creativity. Together, the group will discuss the book’s themes before inviting participants to write a short letter to themselves or to someone else to help them get through tough times. The group will then take the pieces and create a short digital zine to be hosted on PRIM’s website

This workshop is open to all young people aged 16 – 25. If you’re a Westminster resident, you can also pick up your free ICA Westminster Youth Membership
PRIM is a digital platform for storytelling borne out of not seeing enough Queer Black stories and stories, in general, of people of Black ancestry. From pieces to read to photography and an author’s catalogue, PRIM is showcasing the varying mediums used for storytelling, created and told by people we resonate most with. PRIM also hosts OKHA, a monthly queer + Black book club.

K Bailey Obazee is Founder and Director of PRIM, a platform for storytelling which also produces OKHA, a monthly queer + Black book club. K is also a curator, consultant and researcher with a focus on storytelling, ensuring visibility of storytelling by people of Black ancestry. She has so far collaborated with Aesop, British Vogue, AKO Caine Prize, worked as a researcher for Arts Council England, and been featured in The New York Times and Harpers Bazaar, as well as had guest appearances with Resident Advisor, Apollo Theatre, and gal-dem. Born a Nigerian and raised in East London, building for and with her Queer & Black community is numero uno for K.
The Young ICA Network is a hub for young people aged 16 – 25 who are interested in art, writing, politics, and connecting with other young people. Throughout the year, we hold skills-based workshops led by artists, community talks, reading series, and much more at the ICA. Young people from Westminster get free memberships and we aim to work with schools, organisations, and individuals located in the borough, but our programming is open to all young people.
