How do art spaces shape our politics? How do colonial forces shape art? Might art spaces form counter-colonialisms?
From Palestinian worldmaking to the Cuban revolution, French colonial capture and Mexican post-revolutionary artistic revivals to the subversion of monuments of indigenous people, this programme explores art's relationship to (anti)coloniality across a range of historical and national contexts.
Chris Marker and Laura Mulvey are joined by contemporary artists and collectives to survey the history of colonialism and art's interlacing. These works insist that we must continually critique art spaces' oppressive effects and identify their revolutionary potentials.
Curated and introduced by Oliver Dixon
