ICA is closed from the 30 May – 3 June inclusive.
Hiroshima mon amour, dir. Alain Resnais, France 1959, French with English subtitles, 90 min.
The ICA is delighted to welcome you back to Mondays for Members, our exclusive members-only events series.
This month we are proud to present Hiroshima mon amour in 16mm.
A French actress (Emmanuelle Riva) and a Japanese architect (Eiji Okada) engage in a brief, intense affair in postwar Hiroshima, their consuming mutual fascination impelling them to exorcise their own scarred memories of love and suffering. The debut feature from Alain Resnais, Hiroshima mon amour is a moody masterwork that delicately weaves past and present, personal pain and public anguish.
With an innovative flashback structure and an Academy Award–nominated screenplay by Marguerite Duras, we are delighted to present Resnais' landmark film ahead of our complete retrospective of the work of Marguerite Duras beginning on 18 July.
The screening will be followed by a drinks reception.
