Pierrot le fou
Institute of Contemporary Arts
A white woman leans in to kiss a white man, holding his cigarette in her hand to do so
Pierrot le fou, dir. Jean-Luc Godard, France / Italy 1965, 110 min., French with English subtitles, 15

On impulse, Ferdinand abandons his bourgeois existence with his wife and child to take off with Marianne, an old flame. Being pursued by foreign thugs, they embark on a haphazard crime spree, a crazy adventure involving fast cars, mysterious gangsters and a Mediterranean idyll that turns sour.

Godard’s cine-literate take on the lovers on the run film is a raucously funny and ultimately tragic road movie starring Anna Karina and Jean-Paul Belmondo in two of their most iconic roles.
