A thirteen-year-old boy reappears after an unexplained, weeklong absence. His disappearance has wrought crisis in the home, for Astrid (Maren Eggert), his mother.

Conceived at the same time as the equally elliptical The Dreamed Path and constructed between the woods, a school play rehearsal of Hamlet and the muted spaces of the home, Schanelec’s quietly precise study into a fracturing domestic life earned her the Best Director award at the 2018 Berlinale.
