“In Places in Cities, Schanelec affords her protagonist what every teenage girl wants and few get, something more important than happiness: the right to exist for herself.”
—Erika Balsom

Mimmi, a reticent teenager from Berlin, becomes pregnant on a school trip to Paris. Schanelec’s variation on coming-of-age is formally precise as it traces Mimmi’s uneasy path to adulthood in her drift between the two cities, along feelings of instability, solitude and desire, all through which she remains inscrutable.
