Jaione Camborda conjures a palpable sense of fear in her keenly observed second feature, set in a remote community in 1970s Galicia. The emotional and physical journey undertaken by midwife María – a revelatory debut performance from dancer Janet Novás – offers a distinctive insight into the policing of women’s behaviour during the Franco dictatorship.
