'And thus the soul too, if it wishes to know itself, will have to look into the soul'
– Plato

A Greek-American filmmaker embarks upon an epic journey through the breadth of the Balkans, from desolate borders to cities under siege, in search of what is believed to be the very first film shot in the region.

A homeric odyssey in triplicate, the second film in Angelopoulos' Borders trilogy is both a search for the roots of cinema, a voyage through the history of the Balkans, and finally the journey of a man through his life, loves, and losses.
